France: Land of a Thousand and One Cheeses

It is customary for a devout Catholic to go once in his life on a pilgrimage to Rome and similarly for a Muslim to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca. For a lover of good food, the wonderful destination is France: country of the culinary art of the table. Unfortunately, this art has a tendency to get lost. However, one must move with the times while maintaining the good traditions of the art of living.

Here we will talk about cheese: French food, par excellence. It is customary in France to finish a meal with a piece of cheese accompanied by a glass of wine from the same region as the cheese. I must say that each cheese has a particular history, which often goes back to past centuries. It would be impossible to deal with a subject as large in a single page of this blog. Therefore, we decided to publish a weekly post devoted to cheese as well as its origin. Each region in France has its particularity, its history, sometimes dramatic, sometimes more joyful in its popular festivals, often with more than a century old traditions. We have classified this cheese list per family, and we treat each family with the related cheeses.
